38 Days has taken our love and adoration of babies, and played on what is a popular memento in our time, the casting of our children's feet and hands as a souvenir of a time that seems all too brief.
This piece demonstrates clearly the beauty and complexity of an otherwise discarded part of a chicken, "a souvenir of a time that seems all to brief". Thirty-eight days is the average lifetime of a chicken being raised for slaughter.
I have cast my Chicken Feet in Crystacal and mounted them on a natural wood plinth. In this format, I hope that one can clearly see the beauty and complexity of an otherwise discarded part of a bird.
