There are very few animals on this planet that humans truly respect, least of all are those that we eat. The common farm animal typically lives an unnaturally short life in a confined space, which basically amounts to imprisonment and cruelty. By all means we may choose to eat birds, fish and animals but up until the day they are slaughtered why should we not allow them the dignity to roam free and live a natural life without our economically driven selfish manipulation?
My drawing of Athos, Porthos and Aramis is an attempt to call on the viewers attention to an otherwise overlooked life form. These birds have a larger than life theatrical stage presence intended to enhance their individual characters, the chalk and charcoal used are applied in free flamboyant strokes to emphasize their vibrancy.
